wedding peechures!

At long last! After 10 years of sifting through 3,500++ photos, I was finally able to pick out the ones I like best. Now I can submit this to our photographer so they can start making our wedding album. Pictures uploaded here.

Daddy-less weekend

When you're battling for time against your very own country, how can you compete?

Sometimes, getting used to being with him regularly on weekends also has its disadvantages. I keep on forgetting that when you're married to someone of his type, being together is the unusual and not the norm.

Bleh! Maybe I'm PMS-ing. hehe.

What I love most about being a mom.

Mai asked me this question. Thanks Mai!

If you've read my previous entries, you know that I had a rough start as a mom. But now that my hormones are finally settling back to it's normal state, I am finally starting to enjoy motherhood.

It's really hard to pinpoint just one thing that I love about this new role of mine. When JB came into my life, there was a big change in terms of my priorities and how I view life. I usually just think about myself and I don't actually plan for the future (I am a person who live for the moment). Now that JB is here, every plan that I come up with are designed primarily for him (and his future siblings). I must say that when I had JB, he made me a better person--this I think is what I am most thankful for and what I love most when I became a mom.

What comes in close second is that I now have a deeper and more meaningful bond with my husband. Going through the ups and downs of parenthood definitely made our relationship stronger.

Now, I'm asking you, Kiel and Kim.

JB is finally a Christian!

He was sleeping all throughout the ceremony. Even when Holy Water was poured on his head, it didn’t bother him at all. The priest told us, "Sanay maligo". =) We're happy that many of the guests made it to the church. After some photo ops, we headed to Sumthin' Fishy in Eastwood for the reception. We were surprised as to how the place was decorated. It was way beyond J and I's expectations. Thanks to Miss Babes (one of JB's ninangs) for making sure everything is in order during the reception. JB finally woke up when we arrived in Eastwood and he greeted the guests with his killer smile. =) We noticed that JB enjoys it when he’s surrounded with a lot of people. Gusto nasa limelight! The reception finished at around 4 pm. Miss Babes was kind enough to let us stay longer. One lesson I learned though, on JB’s next big event (his first birthday), I will make sure to save more so we can hire a photographer. Ang konti ng pictures ko. =( hahaha! Cam-whore mommy talaga! Pictures saved in my multiply account.

6 weird things

My long overdue tag from Kiel. =)

1. This game starts with 6 weird things about you.
2. People who got tagged need to write a blog entry of their own 6 weird things. (its fun promise:P)
3. They should as well state this rule clearly.
4. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names.
5. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says you are tagged in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

1. I have 4 sim cards (globe, smart, sun and touch mobile). I use each one for different purposes. =) I think the only sim I don't have is that of talk 'n text.
2. One of my most favorite mommy chore is changing my son's nappies due to poop.
3. When I was young, I used to think people wearing eyeglasses can't have children.
4. Also, when I was young, I don't like to get married unless my husband's surname is the same as mine. Hehe. Mahal na mahal ko ang apelyido ko. =)
5. Smileys in text messages are very important to me to the point that I would sometimes pick a fight with my husband if his texts don't include it.
6. I brush my hair just once a day, after taking a bath. I just use my hands to fix it for the rest of the day. Tamad e! =)

I'm tagging YOU!

zzzzzzzz...

It's my third day back at work. I'm finding it really hard to get in the groove of working again. As one of my colleagues told me, I'm still floating. Hehe. And JB is not making the transition easier. This week, his sleeping pattern did a big turn around. From awake all afternoon to awake all night. He refuses to sleep from 11PM to 6AM. And he doesn't want to be left alone the whole time. I need to talk to him, carry him once in a while so he won't get cranky. If not for the willing grandparents who takes over by 4AM, I would have had no sleep at all. So for 2 consecutive nights now, I am just averaging 2 hours of peaceful slumber. Zzzzzz.......

Ack!

Reason for the title: I only have one more week of maternity leave and I'm back in the office!!! =( I will miss my JB!

Not only that, I have tons of things to do for this week that I won't be able to do when I start work again.

1. Need to go to SSS to claim my card.
2. Go to LTO to get student's permit.
3. Finish JB's baptismal invitation.
4. Distribute the invitations (mostly via email) and confirm attendance.
5. Scout for souvenirs and gift favors for his godparents.
6. Finalize the pictures for our wedding album. (Waah! Long overdue na to! As in! Apparently, having too many pictures has some disadvantages as well. Hehe)
7. Pick out the songs for our wedding video. (Sabi naman senyo, I'm a chronic procrastinator!)

Hay ang dami! And I want to finish all these by Wednesday so I can take Thursday off and go to Pampanga to visit hubby. I was there for about 6 hours yesterday because he's missing me badly. Hahaha! The short hours are worthwhile but of course, it's not enough especially since we haven't seen each other for 2 weeks already. (Weekend leaves have been hard to come by lately.) He's also missing his "mini me" so much but I can't bring him along since he hasn't been baptized yet.

I just hope I'll have more than enough energy (and time!) to do all of the above in 3 days!

confessions of a new mom

A little over a month ago, I gave birth to our dear JB. I have been meaning to give birth especially during the latter part of my pregnancy because of all the discomforts of a bulging tummy. I was telling myself that life would probably be easier when I’ve given birth already. Little did I know that my complaints before are nowhere near to what I will go through after I give birth.

My pregnancy was relatively easy. Delivery day wasn’t as traumatic as I thought it would be. Everything was well within what we hoped for (i.e. I had a normal delivery to our healthy baby boy). The hospital was a happy place for me as friends and family visited everyday. Everybody was happy for J and I. J proved to be the responsible husband and new father as he took care of everything and took good care of me when I can’t even lift myself up from the bed. I went home 2 days after giving birth while JB was left in the hospital to recuperate. On his 4th day, we were finally able to bring him home…and things started to get tough for me from then on.

FEELING TRAPPED

The every 2-hour feedings, diaper changing, sleepless nights and figuring out what this little one needs took its toll on me. I would find myself crying for a lot of different reasons. That I will be all alone in taking care of JB when J goes back to camp, that I can never travel again without worrying how my baby is doing, that I will never be the spontaneous girl I was before. I feel like I was losing my identity from the overwhelming responsibility of motherhood. You see, I was never the domesticated type. And I thought that when our baby comes out, it would bring out the homemaker in me. But it didn’t.

There was a time, I was nursing JB and my mind was tracing my steps as to how I was led into this situation. Why with just one wrong decision, I now have to give up my comfortable life before. I felt guilty. To even think this way when this baby is a blessing to us. When a lot of people are praying for their own child and I can’t even appreciate mine. I was afraid to admit it at first until I got tired pretending… loving JB didn’t come easy for me. I was feeling more of a prisoner than that of a mother. Our room seemed more like jail to me and JB as the big ball and chain on my feet. I am blaming baby powder and diaper commercials for my high expectations.

I hit rock bottom when JB had one week of crying fits from 12MN to 5am. On the 7th night, I was feeling dizzy and out of breath. As if I was drowning. It was probably combination of fatigue, lack of sleep and my extreme sadness that bottomed me out. As I searched the net the following day, “depression” found a whole new meaning for me. Except for the “thoughts of harming the baby and oneself” and “has suicidal tendencies”, I pretty much have all the symptoms of post partum depression (PPD). I learned that what I had on the 7th night was a case of panic attack.

With the newfound knowledge of my symptoms, days that followed aren’t exactly easy but at least I have a clearer understanding of what I’m going through and whenever I sense a panic attack on its way, I take necessary actions to somehow get me through it.

THE ROAD TO HEALING

I don’t know if it was the first time that I went out of the house and was away for a couple of hours with a friend or when one morning, JB was staring at me and suddenly gave me a big smile that I started to feel good again. I realized there were less difficult days and I regained the energy I lost during the first month. I was getting to know JB more. He is no longer the unsettled, unresponsive, cranky little man.

My medical condition needed medical attention, but my therapy was way way better than any psychologist could give me. I have a very strong support system from my family and my friends. Every time I’d start feeling low again, there’s always somebody whom I can talk to about my emotions. Close friends visited the house every so often which helped a lot in my recovery. According to my research, little alone time should be spent when dealing with PPD.

There are still difficult days but I take comfort in knowing that it will also end. I’ve come to realize that having JB is not a roadblock for me to do the things I enjoy and to reach for my dreams. He is now my inspiration to achieve more in my life. I can still travel and continue with my adventures. It will actually be more exciting now since I have my baby with me to experience it. Mala-Dyan Castillejo ang drama ko nito. =)

When I look at my baby now, I no longer feel trapped. My love for him finally came and I can now truly say that I’m enjoying motherhood...every moment of it. =)

hi everyone!

Baby is asleep. So here I am, finally having enough energy to write an entry. This won't be long though as I have to wake the little brat for his daily bath. So what's up? The past month has been insanely flooded with extremes. Extreme happiness, sadness... I will try to write a separate entry on my experience as a first time mom. I have yet to organize my thoughts at the moment.

Baby JB is doing fine. He is growing up so fast and is now very active. My sleeping habit is slowly adjusting to his. Hopefully when I get back to work, there will be less 3 am feedings. Hehe. I wish! Lately, he is asleep during the night until morning.. wakes up in the afternoon and stays awake until around 10 in the evening. This is actually good as I get a good night sleep. Sana hindi ko mabati at biglang mag-iba ang sleeping pattern ng anak ko. =)

There. I will post JB's recent pictures when I download them later. I have to go, it's bath time! =)

our baby has arrived!

jakob benjamin gutierrez moldez

Born March 25, 2008 7:04 pm via normal delivery. 6.12 lbs, 50 cms.

The reason that I still have time to blog and upload pictures now is that JB is still in the nursery, recovering from the circumcision done to him. As much as I would like for him to experience circumcision when he's much older, the pediatrician told us that JB's penis' opening is small and not removing the extra skin now could become a problem when he's already on his 5th or 6th month since this may cause him urinary tract infection. J and I immediately decided to let him undergo circumcision upon seeing that the opening is indeed small as compared to other babies. The resident pedia told us that we may be able to bring home JB tomorrow.

Anyway, up until now I still can't believe that I have given birth. Kakaibang experience pala talaga ang manganak. I labored for 20 hours but seeing JB was worth all the pain and the long wait. I have to give a lot of credit to my ever loving hubby who was able to keep everything together. Just like how he was during our wedding (where he absorbed all the stress para maging stress-free ako on our big day), he took care of everything and I sure am lucky to have such a responsible husband especially during critical times. I am truly grateful to the Lord for giving me and my family this much blessing. Hay naku. And dami ko pang kwento. I'll give details of how D day went in my next post. For now, pictures na lang muna. =)

things to do

Eversince I got pregnant, I had to postpone some of the things I wanted and needed to do that were lined up last year. And so I'm listing it down as I might forget after I give birth. Baka maging malaki ang epekto sakin ng anesthesia. :)

1) Continue my MBA studies.
I'm only 1 subject short of taking the core subjects. I'm also thinking of switching to Ateneo because they have fewer subjects there and it would only take me 1 more year to finish (granted that all my subjects taken in DLSU will be credited).

2) Practice driving.
With the baby's arrival, commuting could be such a hard ordeal. And I don't want to always rely on somebody to drive me.

3) Go on that long overdue vacation.
We already have tentative plans on how to go about this. But I don't want to put the details into writing just yet. Baka maudlot. With my husband's line of work, hindi uso ang pagpaplano. You have to be a spontaneous person to make the relationship work. Kidding! Pero seriously... in my experience, 95% of the time our plans never really push through. But we do have things in mind on what to do but no timeline is involved so as to avoid frustrations.

There. Tatlo muna. I have a lot of adjustments to do after the baby comes out so I'm keeping my list short. =)

Have a blessed holy week everyone!

almost...

...but not quite.

Hehe. I had my first bout of false alarm this morning. Woke up with a weird feeling in my abdomen accompanied by a slight lower back pain. "Could this be it?". The pain is tolerable but it was uncomfortable enough to not shake off. I immediately texted the office that I might not be able to report to work. I wasn't in panic mode yet, nor was I nervous. I was actually anticipating the contractions sometime in the latter part of the day. After sleeping again for about an hour, I woke up with no pain whatsoever in any part of my tummy or lower back. Oh well! I guess JB is giving me a dry run on what's supposed to happen in the very near future. Hehe. Nakakapraning pala to noh? I'm sure giving birth is just like finding your true love... You will experience it in the most unexpected time. Nyahahaha!

choose your own adventure

Ever heard about that book? I used to love reading that with my seatmate back in elementary days. For those who don't know it, it's a book where you actually choose what you want to happen in the story to come up with different endings. The reader is given 2 (or is it 3?) choices on what he wants to happen. Anyway, I was talking with my best buds last Sunday and we were contemplating about the decisions we have made in the past. We've come to realize certain points in our lives where we thought we were just making minor decisions but turned out to be life-changing for us.

Don't get me wrong, I don' regret anything. I've been blessed more than I can ever imagine. But wouldn't it be nice if we can somehow just take a peek of how our lives would be, had we decided otherwise. Silip lang. Because I know that whatever is happening right now is what's best and is part of God's grand plan for me.

I'm next...

I received two good news this week. Paul (a former classmate in SMCQC) announced last Monday that his wife (Hi Mai!) gave birth to baby Asher last Sunday and just yesterday, I was again told of another angel born. My officemate Cindy gave birth to a healthy baby David last Monday. They're approximately 3 weeks ahead of my due date which means in about 3 weeks time, it will be my turn. I've been given lots of advice from my officemates on how to make my birthing and recovery easy. I have yet to find out my tolerance level when it comes to pain.

Baby JB, however, seems to be clinging dearly to my tummy. He hasn't descended yet. Everyone is commenting that my tummy is still high considering that I'd be giving birth this month. I guess I need to start walking.

Hay. Malapit na talaga. =)

surprise!

Surprise # 1: Hubby texted me early Thursday morning requesting me to open our front door because he's waiting outside. I was half-awake then and I can't make sense of his text. He can't be here in Manila. He never comes home unannounced. Plus, before we ended the night, I knew he was in camp with his boss. So I replied and asked him, "which house?". Haha. Nagduda pa noh? Baka wrong send kasi. True enough, when I opened the door, he was there (still groggy from the early morn travel). Turns out, one of his upperclass in the batallion asked him if he would like to go to Manila since this upperclass will be running some errands here. They left camp at around 2:30 in the morning. Yey! I can't believe it! And it's not weekend yet!

Surprise # 2: My officemates asked me way way before to reserve Feb 29 but no further details were divulged to me. I already had an idea what this was about but up until we arrived in Ayala station night of Feb 29, I didn't know where the baby shower will be held. Then they texted us to proceed to Music21 in Jupiter St. I was shocked to know that we'll be singing the night away. =) When we arrived at the venue, I was even more surprised. The room was decorated with balloons and there were LOTS of food served. They even came up with a theme. They were all dressed in preggy outfits. Well, I didn't notice it until they pointed it out to me. Hehe. JB received lots of gifts from his titas. Hubby and I were really really touched by this gesture from them. Eventhough I knew that they are giving me a baby shower, I didn't know that they are going all out! =) You see, JB is one of the first babies in our office barkada. And they are all excited of his arrival. Thanks guys! Really! Speechless kami ni hubby. =)

updates...

Pregnancy-wise, I'm now on my 35th week! The back pains, which used to be tolerable, is now becoming harder and harder to shake off. I would almost always have to put a hot pad on my back to temporarily relieve me of the pain. This is just a sign that delivery day is nearing already. During my last check up with my OB, she was telling me, "malapit na". Indeed, as early as in 2 weeks time, it's possible for me to deliver and our JB is considered not premature anymore. But I'm still hoping that I get to deliver near my due date (March 31, 2008) para hindi macount yung 2 days ng holy week as part of my maternity leave! Sayang ang holiday if counted sha dun e. Hehe.. =)

Nwy, we're almost complete with the baby things. The major thing we're lacking right now are those needed for feeding. I've been researching heavily about feeding bottles for the past weeks (last month I was obsessing about clothe diapers). I was initially bent on getting Avent brand for the feeding bottles. However, recent studies in the US showed that there's a high amount of Bisphenol-A (aka BPA) in those bottles which can be harmful for the baby. O diba, meron ng ganun? So I'm now switching my search on BPA-free bottles that are also anti-colic. Yeah. I know. Some words may seem gibberish here in my post. What can I say, my maternal side is kicking in somehow! =) I didn't know having a baby can be this complicated nowadays! Before, I used to think that you can get by with some blankets, feeding bottles, diapers and then you're all set. But there are just so many brands...so many to choose from and you'd have to research to weigh which ones you think are the best for your kid. I'm not complaining though. I'm glad to do all these mommy-chores for our brat. =)

It's funny that just about this same time last year, I've already lined up my summer activities. My google-search before is just all about travel, the beach, and the latest airline promos. To say that this year is different is an understatement. When I go online now, I go straight to the mommy forums where they talk about the latest "trends" in feeding bottles, diapers, breastfeeding, etc. Whenever I go to the mall, I'd go straight to the infant's section and scout for other things our baby needs. I don't even go to Kamiseta, Bayo and Forme anymore (something that used to be routinary.). Having a child indeed changes ones life. The girl who used to be kiti-kiti, is now a homebody. And will probably be a homebody for the next 3 months or so. Or up until my baby is strong enough to come with mommy on her travel adventures (like going to daddy's camp. haha!).

Staying at home most of the time meant being best buds with our TV. I've been updated on the latest happenings on the telenovelas on both Channel 2 and 7. Haha. And of course, the news which is starting to get irritating. The never ending saga of the ZTE scandal is becoming more of an extended soap opera with so many characters popping from out of nowhere. Enough with the drama already. Let's get to the point please. Show the evidence and pinpoint all the masterminds involved in this fiasco, sue them and then let's get on with our lives and really start showing the world that we're not just about rallies and booting our presidents from their post. Naumay na rin ako sa People Power concept. Haven't we all learned that it has gotten us nowhere. Sometimes I can't help but think that an authoritarian government is just what we need because we do not know how to be responsible with this freedom that we claimed 22 years ago from a dictator. Sorry, I got carried away.

On to non-political topics. I know I promised to post my latest lay out but my digiscrapping career was temporary halted since the laptop is with hubby right now. His current duties demand him to make powerpoint presentations. Kakaiba no? Typical military men carries big guns but my hubby carries a laptop. Haha. I don't want to give details about his current assignment though, as I might get sued for giving too much information. =)

1st pic!

J was able to come home last Tuesday night so we were finally able to do that "thing" we wanted to do since I turned 28 weeks. That is, a 3D4D ultrasound of our JB! I took a leave from office yesterday. So here are the adorable first pictures of our dear son.

cute cute smile!

masikip yata sa loob ng tummy ni mommy...

naiirita na ang anak namin

ayan umiyak na talaga!

The experience of seeing your baby up close is indeed an amazing experience. At first, his hands were covering most of his face. The sonologist did some shaking (which she told me is still safe for the baby because he's protected) to wake him up, he finally removed his hand from his face and he let daddy and mommy see him. He began crying shortly thereafter maybe because we disturbed his sleep. But after a while, after some pep talk from both me and the sonologist, he finally graced us with his smile and yawn! Aliw sobra! Even the sonologist was having a great time taking pictures of our boy. She told us that it's rare for her patients to have a really clear view of their baby. She was mentioning about more water that's why the pictures were clearer. Usually, she takes around only 40 images of the babies, but since naaliw sha kay JB, she took 95 pictures which made picking 7 pictures for print out a very hard ordeal. The sonologist was repeatedly telling us ang ganda ng baby namin. =) Well, what can I say. Hindi pa pinapanganak ang anak namin, marunong ng mag-pose sa camera. I wonder who he inherited this from? :P

We're now waiting for the DVD and the 2 colored pictures of the ultrasound. Hopefully, we can get it by next week so we can show the colored pictures to J's foster mom and dad when we head to Baguio. I will also upload the video in my multiply account once we get it.

I'm not really sure though who JB looks like, my mom and dad told us that he looks like J's mom and dad combined. But I say, he got his lips from J and the nose from me! Haha!

still here

I've been on blog hiatus for almost 3 weeks! But I've been online. I've just been hooked to a lot of forums regarding pregnancy, baby stuffs and what nots. Everything that concerns our precious JB. Since I'm a first time mom, I've been heavily researching on new born stuffs that needs to be purchased. J & I have actually started buying some of JB's things. We bought a crib 2 weeks ago and some basic clothing. When we tried to set up the crib in our room, I was more anxious than ever to hold our precious brat. Hehe. I really felt like a mom already! We still have a LOT of things to buy. I've already prepared a list of the things we need before JB comes out. It's quite tempting to purchase all the cute clothes that I see. But I have to stop myself and be practical that these clothes will be easily outgrown by our little boy. There are more important things to splurge on than clothes and those nice-to-have things.

I'm on my 32nd week and my boy is becoming more active than ever. Feeling ko lagi shang gising! J told me our baby is probably practicing taekwondo as early as now. Well, these taekwondo kicks are hurting mommy sometimes. Hehe. I've been staying at home most of the time because it's getting harder for me to move because of the heavy tummy. But I do hope to get a go signal from my OB to proceed with our Baguio plans next week. Ang tapang noh? Going on a 6-hour trip on my 33rd week! This might be the last out of town vacay I'll be having before JB's arrival.

As for my digiscrapping career. I think I'm making progress. I finished my 2nd LO using the tutorial from this website
. It's so helpful, I tell you. I've been learning a lot about Photoshop! Will post my latest LO on my next post.

I guess that's just about it. Will try to update as often as I can. =)

due to a broken TV

The tv in our room broke last Sunday and I was left with nothing to do but to tinker with my laptop and just go online. I've already chanced upon digiscrappers websites before and was interested to try it but found little time to really concentrate on learning the craft. Last Sunday, however, I had so much time in my hands. J wasn't able to come home since most of the officers in their batallion are on break.

After around 2 hours of reading and researching, I purchased my first ever digiscrapping kit online. I used the earnings in my Paypal account to pay for this. I spent another 2 hours trying to quickly learn the basics of photoshop. And so I'm presenting my first ever lay out...

credits: Brown bags & calico kit by Meryl Bartho

Pang-beginner pa lang. Hehe. But I'm quite happy with the result. Sorry for the cheesy title, after looong hours of doing this I felt like labor of love na talaga to! Picture pa talaga ng asawa ko ang una kong ginamit. =)

I still have a loooooong way to go in learning this craft. I've seen a lot of other people's works and it amazes me! I just wish I'd be able to do as good as they are in the future. Right now, I'm stocking up on free kits I saw online.

I'm planning to make a 2008 calendar using pictures from our wedding. It's a bit too late for this pero January pa lang naman. =) Also, I'm thinking of digiscrapping our son's baptismal invitation! O diba, may mga naka-line up ng projects. I just hope I'd be able to make time for this in the coming weeks before our baby gets out. =)

If you guys want to try, you can start with this website. http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com/ They have useful tutorials for newbies like me. Happy scrapping! =)

28 weeks and baby story

I'm finally on the last leg of my pregnancy. I never thought nakakainip pa lang magbuntis. Haha. I'm really eager to have JB (we finally agreed on a name! nickname nga lang! haha) in my arms already!

I have to say, our son is a real trooper. The first few months of my pregnancy are all stress-filled with all the preparations we did for the wedding. Despite that, he remained healthy and we are so blessed that we didn't have any near miscarriage incidents. I had a couple of trips to the ER but these were not that threatening to the pregnancy.

Going to the 3rd trimester, I must say, some of the discomforts of pregnancy is finally kicking in. I'm finding it hard to have long walks as I get tired easily. There was a time during the holiday season that J had to massage my feet the whole night and the morning after just to relieve the pain. I've been gaining weight bit by bit and I'm happy to say that I'm right on track! During the 2nd trimester, pregnant women are supposed to gain 1 lb every week and as of my check up yesterday, I've already gained 13 lbs! Hopefully, everything will be normal (including the delivery!) until JB is born.

During the 2nd trimester, his movements were not that often and not that strong but lately I could always feel him and it's as if he's always doing a one-two punch inside my belly! It can really get uncomfortable and painful at times. But knowing that he's kicking--which means he is doing fine inside my tummy--is enough to make me endure the occassional discomfort and pain.

So on with the baby story. During the last week of July 2007, I'm already 1 week delayed of my period. This is not new since I've had this experience before but just for my peace of mind and to eliminate the thought of pregnancy, I took a pregnancy test. I was so sure I'm not pregnant since I'm on the pill (except for that one time na kitamaran kong uminom). I even told my friend (who accompanied me on buying the kit) that I'm sure the test will be negative. So the next morning when I took the test, I was caught dumbfounded when I saw the 2nd pink line appeared. "This can't be", I told myself. That "one time" that I neglected taking the pill proved to be life-changing. I was shaking and I felt cold rush through my body so I immediately went out of the washroom and headed to my room to call up J. He knew that I will be taking the test early that morning so he asked right away what the result was. I could not even utter the words "positive". There was a big big rock inside my throat that all I can utter are giberish words that he cannot understand. Then, I finally said it "buntis ako". After that, I found myself crying non-stop. However, J, on the other line, was celebrating. Needless to say, he was ready, I wasn't. The whole day, I couldn't concentrate on work. Everytime I'd have to tell a close friend about it, I'm almost always close to tears (if not crying like a baby already). All my plans for the future seemed to be blurry now. This baby is definitely not part of the immediate plans.

I went to Cabanatuan that weekend (I'm scheduled to go there anyway) and J and I talked about it. To my surprise, he was calm and mature about all these. While I, was whiny, incoherent and cries continuously! He was the one who laid out our options which at time was all blurry to me. Pregnancy has not sunk in yet. J just let me let out my frustrations for the night. I would find myself waking up every half an hour with teary eyes and a heavy heart. "I AM NOT READY" is the thought that is screaming in my head.

To verify the result of the pregnancy test, we tried searching for an OB-gyne in Cabanatuan but since it was already late in the afternoon on a Saturday, almost all clinics are already closed (some are until 12 noon only). So we decided to go back together to Manila to consult an OB-gyne and confirm if I was indeed pregnant. We went to Healthway in SM North and I had my first ever ultrasound. And there he was, as small as a peanut. Maybe due to an instant motherly instinct, I was able to spot him right away in the screen even before the doctor pointed where he is. Unlike before that I look at ultrasound pictures and I could not even locate where the baby was.

After the ultrasound, for the first time, it finally sunk in (partially). We're having a baby. And I can already sense that my life is going to be different from then on.

Before going to my house to tell my parents about it. We decided to tell his parents first. Surprisingly, they were really happy for us. They seem to be really excited for their first apo. His mom even gave me a few tips on how to take care of myself during the pregnancy.

On our way to my parents, J was silent. He's probably 10x more nervous than I was. He even told me that this is probably the hardest ordeal he has to go through. Harder than plebe days (the worst year in the Academy). Harder than hell week. But all these faded when we were finally able to talk to my parents. They were not that happy but they are not mad as well. I've already anticipated their disappointment. Me, being the only child. My mom immediately wanted us to get married... in church. I declined. I don't want to rush my wedding. I want a civil wedding first and then a church wedding when the baby is already born. But my mom refuses to budge. She's so firm in her decision that we should marry in Church already since she learned of our plans to marry in 2009. Dun din naman dw pupunta yun. Aagahan lang namin.

J understood my mom's point of view. After all, J's first option is we should marry in church right away. I was the one who suggested the civil rites.

After much thought and consultation from both sides of the family, they all got me agreeing on an October/November church wedding. And so here we are, almost 3 months of being husband and wife. We still have a long way to go but so far, so good. We're both anxious now to get hold of this precious miracle inside me.

It's not always sun-shiny mood though. There are times when I still get scared of being a mom and the responsibilities that come with the title. But I'm blessed with a loving husband, supportive parents and friends to help me refocus and help me see that there will be sacrifices but all these sacrifices are worth it. For our baby. =)

maybe the superstitions are true

She "caught" the bouquet on my wedding and she's gonna get married this year!!! So maybe, they have a basis for all these traditions thingie. =)

Congrats on your engagement Vinelle! =) Hope you're reading my blog though. Haha!

P.S. I was told by J that his mistah who "caught" the garter is also getting married this year! =)

welcome 2008!

I drafted my Xmas entry last week but decided to not publish it since it's old news already. Hehe.. So I'll just try and squeeze in Xmas and New Year stories in this entry. Well, Xmas was relatively relaxed. We maximized J's one-week break which started last Dec 21. It was his birthday last Dec 22 so we celebrated it with a church visit and a simple dinner at Trinoma. He slept the whole morning so I was able to give him my surprise discreetly while he was sleeping. He woke up with my gift staring at him. Hehe.

We spent Christmas Eve at home here in Quezon City. Before, we planned on going to Iligan so he can finally show me the place where he grew up. However, now that I'm pregnant, we decided to postpone this trip to September this year when his kuya arrives from Saudi. Excited pa naman sana ko sa famous falls ng Iligan. We almost slept through Christmas eve since we were tired the whole day. Good thing, mother-in-law called and greeted us Merry Xmas so that woke us up.

J went back to camp dawn of December 28. We were still crossing our fingers then that he will be able to sneak out of camp on Dec 31 so we can spend New Year's together. However, when he went back they were on red alert so we decided that I'll just have to go there in N. Ecija to celebrate New Year's eve. It was indeed a different experience staying in their camp. Stripped off of distractions we have here in the city, I found their camp relaxing to stay to. Their batallion planned a small feast inside camp. There was even a chocolate fountain provided by a wife of a mistah. However, their ex o called them and asked them to hear mass by 10 pm because the commanding general of their division will be there too. And there will be medya noche served afterwards (still with the commanding general). And so I was dragged along to this "duty". Their celebration isn't that bad, I just missed all the loud firecrackers because it's not allowed inside camp.

We went back to the barracks at around 1 am. By this time, no one is in the mood to continue the batallion celebration anymore so we decided to hit the sack. The next day, J took me to Pahingahan. A place inside camp that has a lake. It was beautiful and the place of the name speaks for itself. I can practically stay there all day and just stare at the beautiful scenery. J said there used be jetskis for rent but for some reason, the place was not maintained anymore. I really don't mind. I liked the place without the jetski anyway. It would have ruined the calm of the lake.

So there goes my holiday. Ang bilis! Lech. Sana laging na lang bakasyon. =)

holiday fever

Ugh! I'm too lazy to work. Holiday season + Pregnancy = Laziness at its finest! Hahaha! So here I am blogging. I'm actually drafting my posts for our love story, wedding kwento and my baby stories. But I'm still not done so here I am posting random thoughts again.

We just had our annual Christmas party at Hotel Intercon last night and you know what they say about pregnant people--that we guys are lucky! Indeed, after 5 Christmas parties, I finally won a prize in the raffle (and a major one at that!). Hah! I won a Ps 4,000 worth of Sodexho gift certificate. Not bad for someone who's so unlucky at raffle draws. This gift certificate just came in time with all the purchases we need to do before our bundle of joy arrives. Only 3 more months to go and we have to start preparing his things bit by bit.

Besides winning the raffle last night, it was also the first Christmas party that I wasn't able to enjoy the party that much. Huhu. I couldn't drink, I couldn't dance! Waaah! It was plain torture. I usually get wasted during these times and I am also one of the last ones to leave the party. But last night, I was forced to just sit down while the band is playing great great music with my mango juice on my right hand. Sigh. Maybe this is the reason why I was given one of the major prizes in our raffle. Hehe.. Hopefully, next year... I get to party hard and I get to win too! Haha.

I will post pictures of the anime-themed christmas party in my multiply account as soon as my officemates start uploading the pix. I used to get by without a digicam since most of the people around me have their own cams already. Besides, not having your own digicam meant more pictures on other people's camera. Hehe. So I never felt the need to buy one. Except now that baby Roger is coming. I can't constantly borrow my friends' cameras when our little boy starts walking, eating, or does anything amusing. Camera has now become a necessity for us so it's also part of the budget for the "things to buy" before the baby gets out. Ang gastos!

Anyway, it's nearing 5 o'clock already and I'm planning to get out of Makati early because most probably there are LOTS of Xmas parties today and trafik will just get worse as the night progresses. I shall sign off now. Happy weekend everyone!

i am blaming hormones for this

I am a risk taker. The courage to take risks comes with the idea that I can always get myself out of a situation when things get a little too messy for me. I realized that as I grow older and as situations get different (and more complex), I can't easily disappear in oblivion. I can't just boot myself out of frustrating situations. Because doing so can cause pain to people who matter to me.

Every challenge that come my way has always empowered me. Until now. Because now I feel my actions are limited. I feel like I'm strapped. That I can't do anything. I cannot even go to the nearest haven and let the waves wash off my frustrations.

Most days I'm happy. But there will always be days like this when things just don't seem to fall in its right place. I'll get over this.

baby roger

After months of speculation and lots of opinion from people around us, we now know our baby's gender! We went to my OB for my 3rd ultrasound last saturday and...

image from www.doodlesanddots.com/images/its_a_boy.jpg

The doting father can't contain his happiness when the sonographer (o sonologist? hehe) confirmed to us that we're having a son! J's dreams of teaching our baby all the possible sports (mind you, kulang na lang ituro nya pati shot put!) he can teach will now become a reality.

For some weird instincts, I always knew (way way before I got pregnant) that I'll be having a son for my firstborn. Hehe.. I guess my instincts were right. =)

More than our excitement on seeing our baby again, it was a relief knowing that all his body parts are complete and intact. We had a Congenital Anomaly Scan with the ultrasound and the doctor said that everything is pretty normal. Our son's estimated weight right now is around 1.3 lbs and the doctor said that it's the average weight for a baby on its 23rd week. Although, from what I've been reading, the baby should only be around 1 lb. So I'm really happy with how he's growing inside me. Also, baby roger has been really active lately especially at night. His movements can now be felt from outside unlike before that I was the only who can feel it.

I already have a name in mind for the baby but I'm not revealing it just yet because J is not that happy with it. I want a Spanish name for our baby but he wants a mix of Spanish and English name. Ang gusto ko kasi ung tipong parang haciendero ang dating ng pangalan ng anak ko! Kahit walang hacienda. Hahaha! Does anyone have any suggestions? =)
